I remember when I first met a member of the John Maxwell Team in person. She wasn’t someone over the internet. She wasn’t someone that could have been anyone we come across with on any given day among our busy activities. She was someone attending the church that I, on the spur of the moment, decided that I had to attend. I did not know why I had to attend it, and it was out of my way, but my spirit had tugged at me that I had to go.
I had learned about the church from the “music man”, the man who sold me my guitar. It was also another impromptu item on my list of things that I accomplished that month of my life. I was not looking for a church to attend. Yet, I was learning that when an opportunity presents itself, I should just flow with it. So, I bought my first guitar since my teens and learned about this church from the “music man.”
This lady at the church had a beautiful family that caught my attention the first time I had attended. Her husband was caring for the kids and she was not there. This was my second visit. I had wanted to meet her the first time I attended, but I was disappointed to learn she was not there. And since the church was out of my way, I had no plans on returning.
But there I found myself, in a pew on the same side of the church as the day I first attended, and I noticed her there with her family. I had no clue as to why this family in particular caught my attention, but they had. So after the service, I made my way over to them and introduced myself.
I learned she and I had many things in common. Immediately I felt as if I had met a kindred spirit and could not wait to learn more about her. I was disappointed that my life experience with having small children reminded me that this woman probably would not have much time for me, so I asked her more about herself while I had the chance.
When I learned she was a member of the John Maxwell Team my insides were jumping for joy. See, I had been on a journey of personal growth since my teens, and had heard of John Maxwell and was familiar with his stuff. I knew this was right up my alley. I immediately wanted to know how I could get on the team.
I wasn’t able to accomplish the task as quickly as I had hoped. But as soon as I was able to join the team, I did so. I have not regretted this decision.
My journey of personal growth had begun decades before. I initially did not know why I was lead to that church, but I will always be grateful that I followed the spirit or my gut instinct, so that my journey of personal growth could grow to the next step.
